Why Homemade Soap Is Better

If you’re the kind of person who prefers a sandwich made with hearty, whole-grain bread over one made with bleached, all-purpose flour, then you’re the kind of person who understands the value of choosing quality ingredients from nature. That same appreciation for wholesome nature also extends to your skincare, and the real difference between a carefully crafted bar of homemade soap and the cleansing bars you’ll find on most grocery store shelves.

In fact, many grocery store products commonly referred to as “soap” aren’t technically soap at all. Take a look at their labels: you’ll often see terms like “body bar”, “bath bar”, or “beauty bar” instead of the word “soap”. For centuries, soapers made natural soap by combining natural oils, fats, and butters with lye. Modern commercial cleansing bars, by contrast, are formulated primarily with synthetic detergents and surfactants, and mass produced for general use. They’re significantly cheaper to make, last long on the shelf, are reasonably decent at cleaning the human body – but do precious little for taking care of your skin, even if they have a couple drops of lotion added to the bar. Suffice it to say that their formulation is quite different from that of traditional soap.

At Fosters Homemade, we believe what goes into your skincare matters.

We use time-honored soapmaking methods and thoughtfully selected ingredients to create soaps, lotions, and balms that do more than simply become part of your daily routine. Our goal is to give your skin a gentle, enjoyable cleansing experience while helping it feel soft, smooth, and moisturized. The difference is real.

But you don’t have to take our word for it. The feedback we receive from our customers reinforces what inspires us every day:

Real ingredients. Thoughtful craftsmanship. Skincare inspired by nature’s finest ingredients.

That’s the Fosters Homemade difference!
